“Feels secret - but really well located”
Very beautifully presented with great hosts and facilities both offered by the hosts but also available in the surrounding town and countryside. I would highly recommend this B&B for a either a restful stay or a center to explore the amazing counties of Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset.
“Gin and Tonic”
We certainly did enjoy our stay with you at The Walled Garden. The experience was perfect and you were the perfect hosts. I would recommend your B&B to anyone and we certainly hope to return. You both were the best hosts--helping us with destinations, feeding us well, providing us with a very comfortable room, AND after our arduous car journey from London, greeting us with a gin and tonic! Thank you so much! All our best-- JASON and NICK
I really liked Shaftesbury and your home is beautiful and lovely place to stay. You made us feel at home. It was an added bonus finding that it was possible to be naked as I prefer not to wear clothes when and where possible. Thanks so much for your hospitality. Speaking for myself I would very much like to book in again during the summer and will check out possible dates. Please pass on my regards and thanks to Gary for also being such an excellent host. Best regards, Ian
It was an amazing experience. The place is the best place I have ever stayed in. The hospitality was briliant. I think you have both thought if everything. The experience has left me feeling I was a week there not a day. I got too work totally relaxed and am telling everyone how good it is and how good you both are. I have never been anywhere like it. You should be at least 6 star. From the min I got there I was overwhelmed. Thank you so much for your kindness both of you. And tge breakfast was so yummy too. :-) The design of the house is so good. The layout. The detail. Briliant. The gardens where relaxing and I loved everything. Looking forward to my return. Keith
““Charming hosts and wonderful hospitality””
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2013 We stayed for a night as we were attending a function in the area. The Walled Garden is a wonderful house, spotlessly clean and our room was such a delight with one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. The room was quiet, the house tranquil, the town of Shaftesbury charming. Gary and Philip were wonderful hosts, guiding us on what to do and the best places to eat including the wonderful Salt Cellar cafe at the top of Gold Hill. The breakfast was top notch, all fresh and local produce. Cannot recommend highly enough. Go and see for yourselves. Stayed August 2013, travelled as a couple
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2013 Shaftesbury is pure delight and in the Walled Garden you will find two very considerate hosts who have created a home they are willing to share with others and who enthusiastically share their knowledge of the locality and suggestions of what to see and where to go. The attention to detail is superb and nothing has been missed even to sourcing local produce for breakfast; the Walled Garden is simply a relaxing and inspiring place to stay Stayed August 2013, travelled solo
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2013 Not one complaint. Phil and Gary are the perfect hosts and provide an exceptionally comfortable, first rate experience. The location is a perfect home base with so much to do and see in the area. This is one B&B not to be missed! Stayed July 2013, travelled as a couple
Great location... Central but quiet in this wonderful town of Shaftesbury. Outstanding value. Nothing too much trouble. You are welcomed warmly into the home of Gary and Phil. Bedroom and bathroom thoughtfully appointed ... Lots of attention to detail... Lots of sockets for modern gear! Gary is spearheading the Annual Snowdrop Festival with boundless energy and enthusiasm...with Phil supporting! Watch this space! Thanks for a really delightful two days... Plenty of good dining choices too. King John pub excellent! Snow drops at Kingston Lacey nearby AMAZING!
“A hidden treasure”
I would highly recommend the Walled Garden as THE place to stay in this area. Philip and Gary have created a lovely ambience at their beautiful home and are great hosts. When you travel a lot it is always lovely to be able to add another place to the list of ones you would like to return to and the Walled Garden is certainly one for that list. We visited in December and I can only imagine how beautiful the garden must look in full bloom later in the year. There is even a local Snowdrop Festival which was a new one for me! Try the Grovesnor Arms a stroll away for great food and atmosphere.
Gary and Phil have created a beautiful oasis that feels peaceful and private yet is right in the heart of town. We stayed in the Bali Room and it was serene and beautiful. The breakfast was exceptionally tasty, with everything freshly prepared. We could not recommend The Walled Garden more highly. The hosts are what make this place so special, welcoming and knowlegable. They really went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. Shaftesbury is within easy driving distance of many wonderful sights, but it was nice to come home in the evening, park the car, and walk to have dinner or a late night pint in this very picturesque town. Shaftesbury makes a terrific base for exploring because it is so easy to get in and out of by car, and so well located. The garden surrounds the reception rooms downstairs and the views are beautiful. The house is ingeniously designed to maximize views, space and comfort. I cannot think of a thing I would change. We look forward to a return visit.

““Perfect weekend retreat””
5 of 5 stars Philip and Gary have a beautiful house and they go out of their way to make guests feel thoroughly at home. Our room was very clean and comfortable, the breakfasts were delicious and afternoon drinks were an unexpected bonus. Shaftesbury is a great location for a weekend break and Phil and Gary are perfect hosts. Highly recommended.
“You spoil us...”
Dear Gary and Phil, Many thanks for another very enjoyable and relaxing stay in your lovely home. It was great to see you again - you really spoil us! Best wishes, R.... & J... xx
“We threaten to return.......”
Dear Philip and Gary Thank you for making our weekend so enjoyable. Your home really is a great place to stay (well, I think you know that anyway). The breakfasts were excellent, and left us with little need for lunch. Most importantly though, you gave us such a friendly welcome and made us feel like real friends. We can definitely threaten you with another visit in the future. P... and R......
Dear Gary, Colin, Phil We just had to write to express the admiration we had for The Walled Garden. What a fabulous place to stay - the ambience, furniture and furnishings made it seem just like a stately home with the benefit of the sauna, massage service and hot tub. We will leave with the best of memories, and sincerely hope to revisit before too long. And the hospitality and food were amazing, the ‘birthday’ drink of Prosecco yesterday evening was the icing on the cake, so to speak. It was great to see you again and to meet Gary and Colin, thanks to all for making the stay so enjoyable.
Dear Gary & Phil Thank you so much for making our stay at Walled Garden so special. We really enjoyed your lovely house and also the use of your sunbathing roof area. Already looking forward to our next visit. Very best regards J & L
Dear Phil Gary Thank you very much for such a welcoming and wonderful long weekend. We both had a great time and very much appreciated your beautiful home and flawlessly high standard of accommodation. Your tips and advice for travel and local sights were also invaluable including ideas for visits and insider knowledge on where to park etc (we sheltered from the rain in Messums on the way home too). We hope to come and stay with you again in the Autumn. All the best R and A
