Food & Drink
We serve the choice of a full English, or lighter continental breakfast, each morning between 8.00am and 9.30am. Subject to availability we can tailor your breakfast as you wish.
On an evening between 6pm and 7pm you are welcome to join us (if we are around) for a complimentary drink, giving you the opportunity to get to know us and our other guests a little before you go out for dinner or for the evening. Afterwards, you are more than welcome to relax in the garden room or drawing room with its 46inch television if you'd prefer a quieter night in.
Shaftesbury has a good selection of high quality restaurants, cafés and public houses within a short walk, and we will be happy to recommend some of our favourites to you. Within a short drive is Plumber Manor, and the Castleman Restaurant – both of which are historic houses still run by their original families. There are many quaint village pubs producing excellent food. Try the Boot Inn at Ebbesborn Wake if you yearn for beer drawn directly from the barrel, or try the Crown at Marnhull which features in Thomas Hardy's Wessex novels.
Opposite is the wonderful silver-service Fleur de Lys restaurant. The Grosvenor Arms offers a lighter more contemporary cuisine around a fountain courtyard. Amore is a large Italian restaurant. Indian food is available at Aroma and Chutneys. Traditional pub food is found at The Two Brewers, The Fountain and The Mitre. Both China Cafe for Chinese food, and Thai KItchen are true to their names. All are within an easy walk home!
By day why not lunch overooking Gold Hill at the Salt Cellar whose Dutch chef prepares the best fish dishes you will have eaten. There is a daily blackboard of tasty specials and favourites from the menu.
